The men behind the website, Neil Gibb and Jay Bennie, said the
website wasn't ever really profitable. They tried to change to a
profit-driven site a few years ago but found that the need to keep
advertisers happy compromised the journalistic integrity of their
service.
Mr Bennie said there is a need for a website like GayNZ in New Zealand, but the challenge to take it to the next level isn't for them.
