The next steps to reconciliation

The next steps to reconciliation
- Mayor Adrian Weston said the week — which runs from May 27 to June 3 — saluted the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and other Australians, and was an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s identity and history.
‘‘The week provides an opportunity to celebrate and strengthen the reconciliation process,’’ he said.
‘‘This year’s theme ’Let’s take the next steps’ commemorates two historic milestones — 50 years since the 1967 referendum to amend the Constitution to recognise indigenous people and 25 years since the Mabo decision. And we are asking the community to take the next steps by joining us in a walk, to symbolise the next big steps in our nation’s reconciliation journey.
